Q: So did you basically just put a turbo onto your stock NA motor?
A: I bought a Ranger cuz I didn't find a 93 Mustang convertible cheap, and I needed a truck.
I did/puton/changed; * 36 lb/hr injectors * 70 MM Cobra MAF body w/ the stock electronics, and a K&N cone on the end. * installed a piece of old pinto water pipe with a 1/4" nipple on the side of a piece of 1/2" pipe, into the heater hose, this became the water feed to the turbo. * removed the water plug on the side of the block and used a piece of hose to connect the turbo water outlet pipe to a nipple I screwed in that hole. * installed an oil feed block from a turbo engine into the hole in the head, and ran a stock Garrett style oil feed line to the turbo. Needed to be bent a little bit. * ran a long piece of hose out of the turbo, connected to a piece of the stock pipe, around the back of the motor, over the bellhousing, and into the oil level sensor hole in the oil pan. I'll soon replace this with a piece of braided hose or metal pipe or something else, hopefully cheap. * cut a stock XR downpipe and the stock dp in the same place and asked Dave to weld em together. * replaced the PCV with a Turbo PCV. * connected the nipple on the valve cover to the front of the turbo instead of the throttle body * rerouted the o2 sensor wiring so it would reach up top. This is vital. It won't run right at all without it.
THAT'S IT. 15 PSI NO KNOCK! What's my compression ratio? 9.4:1.
If you have a MAF Ranger, or Mustang, have at it! You spend more time shifting gears than being in gear.
