Ford Motorcraft ignition/electronic components

The high underhood heat of the Ford's turbo cars, and especially the Merkur XR4ti, just cooks ignition wires to death. We have yet to find a high quality set of wires that really can last longer than a year. 2.3 Turbo engines should have their ignition wires replaced about every six months for peak performance, or racing. Motorcraft ignition wire sets are a good value. They are the correct length, preassembled, and have silicone boots, on the set for an XR. They seem to work better than most aftermarket stuff. They definitely work better than anything else close to the price we sell them for.

The Thick Film Ignition module, which is attached to the side of the distributor, is responsible for all the spark power on these engines. Several drivability problems and certainly the "dead in the middle of the road" syndrome, can be cured by replacement of the TFI. In our experience, and others, the Motorcraft TFI modules perform better, and last longer than aftermarket parts. Odd driveability problems have been cured by replacing an aftermarket TFI module with the correct Ford Motorcraft part, even when the aftermarket TFI module passed common testing.

Some driveability problems can be cured by replacing the Profile Ignition Pickup, in the distributor. This is a job requiring a press to remove and replace the distributor gear, from the distributor shaft. Often, replacing the entire distributor is a better value.

Ford Motorcraft parts are OEM quality.

BTW, the TFIs are suitable for all Ford TFI applicaitons
